The Government of Rivers State has approved a N10million fine on marriages and weddings that violates it’s COVID-19 guidelines.
This was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, that the guidelines for weddings have been approved by the state Executive Council in a meeting presided over by the state Governor, Nyesom Wike.
He said intending couples should apply to the state governor through the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation.
He said the application which must be accompanied with information of the venue of the ceremony, names, addresses and phones numbers of attendees to make contact tracing easy.
He went further said that, those seeking to bury their loved ones should also follow suit, by giving names, addresses and phone numbers of those to attend the funerals.
The Commissioner made it clear that government would not grant or give approval to any application without names, addresses and phone numbers.
He said marriages should not have more than 50 attendees including family members and wearing of face masks and adhere strictly to social distancing of not less than two meters.
He went further to give time for the church weddings, which should be between 9am and 12noon, traditional marriages would be conducted between 4pm and 7pm.
He said the venues for these marriages must have provisions for running water and soap at three points, also the venue should be decontaminated after the event.
Nsirim stated that wedding receptions were prohibited under the guidelines to reduce the risk of community transmission of COVID-19.
A representative of the Ministry would be present to observe the event and A fine of N10,000,000 is to be paid by anyone that puts people at risk by breaking this regulation, He added.
